Google adds real-time store traffic information

Google has launched a new feature to help shoppers manage their time effectively this holiday season. The initiative improves the Popular Times feature in Google Search and Maps, which allows users to see the busiest times of the week at million places and business around the world.



Just in time for Black Friday, the tool will now also give real-time information on how busy a place is, helping consumers decide whether and when to go, and estimate how long people usually stay at a given location.

The feature extension uses anonymised location data from Google users, as well as searches, to deliver the live-feed.

Google has also expanded the opening times feature for department stores, concessions, restaurants and other companies that have multiple service hours, featuring individual opening hours of each department or business.
