Over the next three days Gladstone London will be unveiling their new SS18 collection entitled, ‘The Big Smoke’ at their first appearance at Pitti Immagine Uomo 2017 in Florence, following a successful week at London’s Fashion Week Mens. The brand will be showcasing their most popular pieces including 3 limited editions. The collection is reminiscent of the Big Smog of 1952 that shut down over-industrialised London due to pollution created by power stations and transport. Sonia Hensler; renowned fine artist, hand paints the curling monochrome smoke designs onto Gladstone London’s iconic clean silhouettes.
The Gladstone London range is inspired by the functionality of lost designs from the ‘London Made’ era, fusing them with contemporary aesthetics. The brand embodies its work-hard, play-hard urbanite audience with the style and exceptional craftsmanship that endures. Deliberately understated yet impactful, the timeless, robust designs that are made to last a lifetime in the city.
The bags offer a combination of rough and smooth elements, achieved by applying diamond cut pewter hardware; reminiscent of the London Underground, to hand selected calf skin leather. London Graffiti has been included in previous collections to further reference the brands urban origins.
Speaking of the new collection, Moe said: “We are always looking to build on what has gone before and bring the influences of the past into future design. The Big Smoke’s understated impact continues to break boundaries.”
John O’Sullivan, founder and CEO of Gladstone London comments “The charm of history and its enigmatic lesson consist in fact that, from age to age nothing changes and yet everything is completely different.”
The Big Smoke collection will be available in Spring/Summer 2018 and includes the G21 Tote, G12 Messenger and G9 Duffle bags. Prices range from £350-£1,100.
The G21 Tote is a handheld bag with an expandable opening that is kept secure by two Sam Brown studs and fitted with an iconic diamond cut bolt lock. Fitted with one multi-functional zipper pocket, an adjustable and removable strap and a flap for extra security, the G21 is versatile with a vintage style.
The G12 Messenger offers simplicity but functionality and the recognisable design provides sophistication with a Gladstone twist.
The G9 Duffle takes inspiration from the 1930s Bolster Bag. Again, simple in its design and lending its shape and functionality, this stylish leather bag has functional pockets inside and out, double decked handle bases and contrasted hand stitching and shoulder strap, ideal for sport to street style.
