Canada Goose has hired a general manager of footwear and accessories as it attempts to enter the footwear market.
Adam Meek has been appointed to lead the development of the retailer’s global footwear strategy.
He has previous experience in working as the sportswear merchandising director at Nike, as well as Lacoste.
Meek will report directly to executive vice-president of product Woody Blackford, who joined in November 2019.
“Now, with all of the pillars in place and our strategy crystallised, we’ve never been closer to bringing our long-term vision for footwear to life,” Canada Goose president and chief executive Dani Reiss said.
“Bringing Adam on board is a key part of making Canada Goose footwear a reality, which we are committed to executing in the right way, at the right time,” she said.
“Adam’s entrepreneurial spirit, passion for footwear, and deep expertise in product development and global product management make him perfectly suited for this dynamic new role.”
Canada Goose’s initiative comes at a time when the luxury market, especially outdoor retail, appears to be struggling.
Rival Moncler reported a first-half operating loss for the first time in its history on Tuesday as its sales dropped due to the Covid-19 crisis.
The retailer did not set a forecast for the rest of the year but said it expected no immediate recovery following the lockdown ease.
